Texas A&M International University remained in contention for a Heartland Conference Tournament berth with a 3-0 sweep over Newman on Thursday night in Laredo. The Dustdevils completed a two-match season sweep over the Jets with the 30-18, 30-26, 30-20 win.

Newman (5-31, 5-8 Heartland) led 26-24 in game two before the Dustdevils finished the contest with six straight points. TAMIU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game three and would later lead 15-4 in the final game of the match.

Ladys Montaño finished with a double-double for the Dustdevils, recording a team-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs. Mary Koch led the Dustdevils in digs (14) and assists (37).

TAMIU (11-19, 6-7) enters Saturday's regular season finale against Panhandle State in fifth place in the Heartland Conference standings, one game behind St. Edward's. The top four teams in the conference regular season standings qualify for the Heartland Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by St. Mary's University on Nov. 9-10.

TAMIU will qualify for the postseason with a win over Panhandle combined with a Newman victory over St. Edward's on Saturday.
