Wendy McManus

Player Profile

Wendy McManus enters her third year as head coach at Texas A&M International University with two solid seasons of accomplishments to her credit. She has guided the Dustdevils to a 37-25 overall record with the team finishing fourth in its inaugural season of Heartland Conference competition last season with a 7-7 league mark.

By virtue of the fourth place finish the Dustdevils secured the fourth and final spot in the Heartland Conference postseason tournament. McManus made the most of TAMIU's first conference tournament berth, guiding the team to the championship match after a win over UT-Permian Basin in the semifinal round.

McManus led the Dustdevils to a 24-5 record in her inaugural campaign as head coach. That mark stands as the best winning percentage (.828) in the six-year history of the program.

Eight student-athletes have earned All-Heartland Conference honors under McManus' tutelage. Last season Nicole Gipson earned first-team all-conference honors and Madison Mojica and Ladys Montaño earned second-team recognition. Gipson was a repeat member of the All-Heartland team, having earned honorable mention honors in 2006.

Prior to arriving at TAMIU, McManus had a highly successful two-year run as head coach at College of the Southwest. She led the Lady Mustangs to a 43-26 overall record with a 25-7 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play. In her first season as head coach McManus led CSW to its first NAIA Regional Tournament berth in school history.

Prior to taking the reigns as a head coach McManus was an assistant coach at College of the Southwest for one year. She arrived at the Hobbs, N.M. school from Orleans, Ontario, Canada where she was a clinician for the Ontario Volleyball Association's Spikes (mini-volleyball) Program, as well as a coach for the Ottawa Kangaroos Volleyball Club.

McManus began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Bemidji State (Minn.) in 2000. She spent two years at the NCAA Division II institution, completing course work towards a master's in sports studies.

McManus competed in four seasons of volleyball at the NCAA Division I level at Chicago State. She was named the team's MVP as a junior and senior. McManus earned a bachelor's in psychology from Chicago State in 1999.
