Clutch late and early hitting led Texas A&M International University to a doubleheader sweep of Newman on Saturday afternoon at Gateway Softball Field. The Dustdevils took the opener 1-0 before prevailing 17-3 in game two. Game one was tied 0-0 at the bottom of the seventh inning. Stormy Keeler won the opening game when she hit a single in the eighth inning, allowing Allison Stein to score the winning run from third base. Keeler (3-7) picked up the win for the Dustdevils. She allowed four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 8.0 innings of work. TAMIU (6-14) broke out in game two with a total team effort of seventeen hits. The Dustdevils were led by multiple hits from Stormy Keeler (3) hits with homerun hits from Samantha Garcia who had (3) HR and (3) RBI's. Ryanne Chapman had a good hitting day for the Dustdevils with (1) HR (5) RBI and (3) hits. This gave TAMIU a ten run rule in which ending the game early at the bottom of the fifth inning Contributing to the TAMIU game two victory was winning pitcher Victoria Beltran (3-4). She allowed seven hits and three runs with four walks. Beltran had seven strikeouts in five innings pitched. |
