Victoria Beltrán contributed four RBI and a complete game pitching effort in Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Schreiner.

Feb. 20, 2008

Clutch late inning hitting led Texas A&M International University to a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner on Wednesday afternoon at Gateway Softball Field. The Dustdevils took the opener 3-2 before prevailing 7-4 in game two.

Victoria Beltrán won the opening game when she drove a ball to the center field fence in the bottom of the seventh, allowing Samantha García to score the winning run from second base.

The game was tied 0-0 before TAMIU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Dustdevils took the 2-0 lead on a RBI double by Stormy Keeler and a Schreiner fielding error that led to a two-out run. Schreiner tied the score in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run by Lyndsie Travis.

Keeler (2-6) picked up the win for the Dustdevils. She allowed four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in 7.0 innings of work.

TAMIU (4-12) broke open a 4-4 tie with three runs in the bottom of the bottom of the sixth inning in game two. The Dustdevils scored on a RBI single by Angel Montejano, a high throw to the plate by Schreiner shortstop Megan Eichman and another RBI single by Beltrán.

Beltrán boosted TAMIU to a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth with her first home run of the season. Schreiner (0-2) tied the game 4-4 on two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning.

In addition to contributing with timely hitting, Beltrán (2-4) was the winning pitcher for the Dustdevils. She allowed only one earned run with six strikeouts and one walk in a complete game 7.0 inning effort.

TAMIU returns to action next Tuesday with a non-conference game at Angelo State.
