Final Stats

Newman defeated Texas A&M International University 58-53 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Fugate Gymnasium on the NU campus in Wichita, Kan.

Newman (6-17, 4-6 Heartland) led 30-21 at halftime. TAMIU would take a 42-41 lead at the 8:07 mark of the second half on a Krystal Benson-Cooper layup.

Newman would respond with an 8-2 run to claim a 49-44 lead at the 5:08 mark. TAMIU would cut the lead to 55-53 on two free throws by Nicole Gipson at the 1:38 mark but the Dustdevils would miss four field goal attempts the rest of the way, including three 3-point attempts.

Gipson led TAMIU (7-15, 3-7) with 17 points and eight rebounds. Mary Tobias contributed nine points for the Dustdevils.

The Dustdevils will take a week off before returning to action next Saturday at St. Edward's.
