Varsity Seeks Revenge Against Alumni

Dustdevil soccer legends José Macías and Daniel Hermosillo will play in Friday's Alumni Game.

April 1, 2008

The Texas A&M International University men's soccer team will be looking for revenge when it faces former TAMIU players in the Second Annual Alumni Game on Friday night at Dustdevil Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Alumni defeated the varsity squad last year 3-1 behind goals by Daniel Hermosillo, José Macías and Jamaal Harmon. Hermosillo and Macías are scheduled for a return appearance along with Jésus Sánchez, Carlos Velázquez, Jerrod Idle and several others.

Alumni team captain and aspiring model Juan Gilberto "Chelelo" García emphatically declares that his team can once again prevail against the younger guys.

"Last year everyone doubted us but we got a surprising 3-1 victory," García said. "I don't expect less for this game. We are going to be ready to play and show again that we still are and will always be the best team in TAMIU history."

Head coach Claudio Arias makes it clear that his team will be looking for a different result with some not so subtle comments about the rematch.

"I have been waiting for this game for a year, so have my players," Arias said. "I hope they are ready."
