Texas A&M International University men's basketball has placed two student-athletes on the 2007-08 All Heartland Conference Basketball Team. The honors were selected by a vote of the conference's head coaches. Junior Chris Swan earns second-team honors and junior Derek Barnes honorable mention recognition. Swan led the Dustdevils and ranked in the top-five of the Heartland Conference rankings in scoring (17.3 points per game), rebounding (7.3 per game) and blocks (1.3 per game). He also contributed 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Swan scored in double-figures in 22 of 26 games played. He scored 20 or more points 10 times with four double-doubles to his credit. Barnes finished second on the squad and ninth in the conference with a 14.0 points per game scoring average. He was the team assist leader, finishing ninth in the final Heartland rankings in assists (3.7) and 10th in assist/turnover margin (1.25). Barnes played for head coach Stephon Leary for two seasons at Palm Beach Atlantic before transferring to TAMIU. |
