Texas A&M International University snapped a four-game losing streak in impressive fashion on Thursday night at the Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The Dustdevils easily defeated Heartland Conference foe Panhandle State 92-68. TAMIU (9-15) took the lead for good on a Derek Barnes 3-pointer three and a half minutes into the first half. Barnes' trey boosted the Dustdevils to a 10-7 lead. TAMIU would take its first 20-point lead of the evening on a trey by Sean Tucker from the corner at the 2:14 mark of the first half. José Alicea would add a 3-pointer at the 1:17 mark and TAMIU headed to halftime with a 43-23 lead. Panhandle State (10-16) would cut TAMIU's lead to 54-46 on a 3-pointer by Aaron Ruiz at the 11:09 mark of the second half. The Dustdevils would respond with a 30-13 run to build an insurmountable 84-59 lead at the 4:05 mark. Spencer Foreman contributed to the game-clinching run with an old fashioned 3-pointer to push the Dustdevils to a 71-52 lead at the 7:47 mark. He connected on a short-range shot in the in the lane and made the free throw after being knocked to the floor by Luke Ogden. Four Dustdevils finished in double-figures with Chris Swan leading the way with 19 points. He also contributed with a team-high eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Barnes finished with 18 points, Sean Tucker with 14 points and Kenny Taylor with a season-high 11 points. TAMIU closes out the season on Saturday with a home game against UT-Permian Basin. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. |
