Porter Named Baseball Coach

Chad Porter led Ohio Valley College to a conference title in 2006.

May 12, 2008

Texas A&M International University Athletics Director Dr. Debbie Snell announced today that Chad Porter has been hired as the school's head baseball coach. Porter will succeed Mickey Callaway, who served as interim head coach for the 2008 season. Porter is expected to arrive in Laredo in July.

Porter has been the head coach at Ohio Valley College, a NCAA Division II member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, for the last five years. He led the Fighting Scots to a 96-147 overall record during his tenure.

Porter was named 2006 WVIAC Co-Coach of the Year after leading OVC to 37 wins and its first conference tournament title. The team would make a return trip to the conference tournament in 2007.

Porter began his playing career at Heidelberg College before playing his final two seasons at OVC. He holds a bachelor's in education from OVC and a master's in physical education from West Virginia University.
