Final Stats

St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 8-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field on the SEU campus in South Austin. The win wraps a three-game sweep for the Hilltoppers over the Dustdevils.

TAMIU (18-34, 16-29 Heartland) took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. The first two Dustdevil batters were retired in that frame before Rey Alvarez drilled a double down the third base line and Ryan Flynn walked. Danny Cornejo then contributed a RBI single that plated Alvarez with Flynn scoring the second run on a throwing error by the Hilltopper centerfielder.

SEU (37-15, 35-11 Heartland) took advantage of two TAMIU infield errors in the seventh inning, scoring five unearned runs off reliever Roger González to take a 7-2 lead. The big blow was a three-run home run by Drew Cross.

González (4-3) took the loss after allowing six runs (one earned) on four hits in a 3.1 inning outing. Starter Zach Gonzáles allowed one run on four hits in 3.1 innings with one strikeout and no walks.

TAMIU concludes the regular season next weekend with a home series against St. Mary's. The Dustdevils and Rattlers will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon each day.
