Final Stats

UT-Brownsville pounded Texas A&M International University 18-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Field.

The Scorpions jumped out 4-0 after three innings, scoring two unearned runs apiece in the second and third innings. UTB (15-22) led 5-0 before TAMIU recorded its first hit of the game, a single by Jason Bonugli in the bottom of the fourth.

UT-Brownsville scored in every inning but the first and eighth. The Scorpions out-hit the Dustdevils 16-3 with six TAMIU errors leading to eight unearned runs for the opponent.

TAMIU scored its lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Angel Encinas in the seventh inning. Ryan Flynn, who led off the inning with a double, scored the run for the Dustdevils.

Jon Ali (2-0) picked up the win for the Scorpions after allowing one run on three hits in 7.0 innings of work. Elias Pérez (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven hits and seven runs (two earned) in 5.0 innings.

TAMIU (10-21) returns to action this weekend with a three-game Heartland Conference series at UT-Permian Basin. The Dustdevils and Falcons split a four-game series earlier this season in Laredo.
